Mini Teacup Pigs–Keeping Them Out of Trouble
Because pigs are naturally curious, they can get into all kinds of trouble. Being of an intelligent nature, they like to keep themselves occupied most of the time. So, exploring is a good activity for them. The owners of mini teacup pigs need to find suitable things for their pet to do before they get into trouble.
To control the behavior of pet pigs, owners should take action before the behavior becomes more difficult to change. Mini teacup pigs need to know that they are not the ones in charge in the relationship.
Training Tips for Mini Teacup Pigs
Mini teacup pigs must learn the difference between what they can play with and what they can’t. You must let them know, in no uncertain terms, that they are not allowed to touch your things. If your pet manages to get something that he shouldn’t, say “No” in a strong tone of voice. Then quickly move him away from the area. You can give him one of his toys as a replacement, praising him when he takes it.
Distracting Your Pet
For distraction, you can buy or even make a variety of toys for him. They love to play with balls of small or medium size, or a soft toy to chew on. They also enjoy shredding old magazines or newspapers. If you get ambitious, you can always find a large box made of wood or plastic and fill it with rocks or birdseed. It must be low enough for your mini teacup pigs to get inside and root around.
For the training to be successful, you should keep a watchful eye on your pet so you can catch him misbehaving. Scolding him after the fact will not fix the problem. You need to be diligent and reprimand him at the time.
Pig Proofing Your Home
After you have had your mini teacup pig for a while, you will soon get to know what he likes getting into. At this point, you can pig proof your house where it needs it. Be sure to place items that can harm your pet in a place where he can’t get to them. Mini teacup pigs love to search for things to eat and play with. They usually like to root around in your fridge and cupboards. You may need to find ways to prevent your pet from opening them.
